Every February 25, the Philippines commemorates the EDSA People Power Revolution, an event that showcased the power of unity in ending the dictatorship of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. and restoring democracy to the country. This year, Manresa honored this historic occasion by declaring a non-academic day and organizing a special program for Grade School students. The event aimed not only to celebrate the restoration of democracy but also to educate students about the events of Martial Law and raise awareness of its significance. Although the program was brief, it was meaningful and served as a great way to honor the People Power Revolution.

The day began with a Mass officiated by Fr. John Paul Frias, where students from Grades 3-12 actively participated, praying sincerely throughout the service. Afterward, the Grade School students enjoyed their recess break before proceeding to the most anticipated part of the program.

Following this, the Grade School gathered in the Old Gym to witness performances prepared by the faculty and staff from Grades 3-6. Before the performances began, students were welcomed with lively opening remarks and important reminders. The first presentation was a play that depicted the experiences of Filipinos during Martial Law and the EDSA People Power Revolution. Despite its simplicity, the play effectively conveyed powerful messages, making it both engaging and educational for the students. Meanwhile, other faculty and staff members who did not take part in the play performed a dance number, symbolizing the joy and freedom Filipinos felt after ending Martial Law through the People Power Revolution.

Manresa’s initiative to hold a special program and declare a non-academic day demonstrated its commitment to educating students about this crucial chapter in Philippine history. As the day ended, students left with smiles on their faces, enriched by the knowledge they had gained and the memories they had created. This program was truly a memorable and impactful tribute to the People Power Revolution.
